Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Accumulator
- a bet that combines multiple selections into one wager, paying out only if all selections win.
- Asian Handicap
- a spread betting method that gives an advantage or disadvantage to a team to level the match odds.
- Bankroll
- the total amount of money set aside for placing bets.
- Bet Builder
- an online tool that lets you combine different markets from a single match into one custom bet.
- Cash Out
- a feature that lets you settle a bet before the event finishes, locking in a profit or reducing a loss.
- Double Chance
- a bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (win, draw, loss) in a match.
- Draw No Bet
- a market where you back a team to win; if the match ends in a draw, the stake is refunded.
- Edge
- an advantage a bettor believes they have over the bookmaker's odds.
- Even Money
- odds expressed as 1/1, meaning a winning bet returns double the stake (original stake plus profit).
- Favourite
- the team or player expected to win a match, reflected by lower odds.
- Fixed Odds
- a set price for a bet that does not change after you place it, regardless of later market moves.
- Goal Line
- a betting line set on the total number of goals scored in a match, often with over/under options.
- Handicap
- a points or goals adjustment applied to a team to create balanced odds for betting.
- In-Play
- betting on a match while it is ongoing, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Lay
- to bet against an outcome occurring, essentially acting as the bookmaker.
- Live Betting
- the act of placing bets on a match after it has started, with odds changing in real time.
- Margin
- the bookmaker's built-in profit, expressed as a percentage of the true odds.
- Odds
- the numerical representation of the likelihood of an outcome, determining potential payout.
- Over/Under
- a market where you bet on whether a specific statistic will be above or below a set value.
- Parlay
- another term for Accumulator; a single bet linking multiple selections, all of which must win for a payout.
- Punter
- a person who places a bet.
- Stake
- the amount of money wagered on a single bet.
- Underdog
- the team or player considered less likely to win, reflected by higher odds.
- Value Bet
- a bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability suggests, offering expected positive value.
- Wagering Requirement
- a condition that states how many times you must bet a bonus amount before withdrawing any winnings.
